Meet Our Teachers

Eleanor Gummer is the founder and director of Whitby School of Music. Eleanor holds both Bachelor and Master’s degrees in performance as well as FTCL, LTCL, and ARCT diplomas. Eleanor is active as an examiner and adjudicator as well as the co-author of the Pianokids® series and author of Violinkids® and Guitarkids®. Many of her students have been winners in local competitions as well as at the Provincial level. A number of her former students have pursued careers in music and as teachers in the school system. Mrs Gummer teaches advanced piano and all levels of theory.

 

Sharon T has been a teacher at Whitby School of Music for over 10 years. Sharon holds both Bachelor and Master’s degrees in vocal performance/pedagogy. Her students have gone on to win at the Provincial level and many have pursued careers in the music field. One of her former students is now staring in a production on Broadway in New York. Sharon teaches voice, piano and guitar.

Michael Y has been at Whitby School of Music for over 10 years. Michael holds Bachelor and Master’s degrees in voice and can be found singing in the Canadian Opera Chorus. Michael has an extensive background in performance in many genres, from opera to singing back-up for Supertramp. Michael teaches voice and piano.

Doug W is a respected and well-known Canadian musician. Formerly a host of a jazz program on the radio, Doug has performed across Canada as part of the Doug Watson trio. Holding a Bachelor of Music degree from the U of Toronto, Doug is proficient in numberous instruments. His students appreciate his enthusiasm for music.

 

Jessica W is pursuing a career in Nuclear Engineering but is also a dedicated violin and piano teacher. A winner of several awards in music, Jessica is working towards an Associate diploma in Music.

Hannah C is working towards an Associate diploma in Piano Performance and is a dedicated and patient teacher. She has a wide variety of interests from computer science to engineering.

Sofia A has a positve and engaging personality which she passes on to her students. Wroking towards and Associate diploma, Sofia regularly performs at one of Whitby's Senior's Homes. 

Isabelle S, when not playing the piano can be found on the ice playing hockey. She is working towards her Associate diploma and also plays the clarinet and guitar.

Claire W is proficient in piano and cello, pursuing Associate diplomas in both instruments. Fluent in English, French and Mandarin, Claire has extensive performance experience and has received numerous awards for her performances.

Jasper Z has been a Profincial finalist in competitions and is pursuing is Associate diploma in piano. He is an enthusiastic musician and teacher.

Sarah Z is an encouraging and patient teacher with her students. Proficient in piano and pursuing her Associate diploma, she is also pursuing violin studies.

Olivia L is working towards an Associate diploma in Piano Performance and is active in Air Cadets. She is fluent in French, Mandarin and English. Olivia is an enthusiastic and vibrant teacher.

Freddie J has an extensive background in guitar, holding diplomas Classical as well as Rock and Pop with Trinity College, England. He has taught at several schools around the world and played in a Hard rock band as well as a Progressive Rock band. Freddie teachers guitar. 

 

David T. Is working toward his Associate diploma in Piano Performance and has won a number of competitions.. David is very involved in his school’s music program and is also a competitive swimmer.
